The cinematic trailers is nearly four minutes long and has no gameplay, but reveals the villain of the piece played by Giancarlo Esposito, famous for playing Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. In Far Cry 6 players play as Dani Rojas, who can be male or female, in their fight against Esposito’s Anton Castillo. Castillo is the dictatorial ruler of the fictional island of Yara that’s under siege from protestors. In the trailer Castillo is shown egging on his young son with a grenade and an earful of bad advice.
While there is much excitement for the game, the announcement comes at a difficult time for Ubisoft after reports have uncovered sickening sexual harassment allegations that have led to the dismissal of three senior employees. Ubisoft acknowledged the proceedings in a tweet saying it wouldn’t be commenting during the game announcements, which were pre-recorded.
